Cell Validation allows you to create your own rules regarding which edits should be allowed and when.
The rules can be as simple or as complex as fit your requirements. So if you want to prevent some – or all – users from editing a particular column at runtime then simply set up a Cell Validation rule to prevent all edits for that column.
Alternatively you can write a Cell Validation rule only to allow edits on a column if the change meets certain criteria. The available options for deciding whether a potential change in cell value is valid are:
Is Positive (for numeric columns)
Is Negative (for numeric columns)
Change in Value is Less Than
% Change in Value is Less Than
For each Cell Validation rule you can choose whether to disallow all edits that break the rule, or to give the user the option of allowing them (after seeing a warning).
Cell Validation Rules can additionally include an Expression. This allows you to specify that the rule should only be checked dependent on certain other column values (e.g. you can write a rule that says BidOfferSpread Change In Value must be less than 0.2 where Currency=”EUR”).
Cell Validation Rules operate throughout the Adaptable Blotter i.e. in Smart Edit, Shortcuts, Plus / Minus and anywhere else that cells are edited, as well as when directly editing cells.
The combination of Validation Rules and Expressions allows you to have complete control of what can be edited and where, far beyond anything any other Blotter offers.
Because each rule is created at run-time there is no need to update the server or restart client machines each time you want to create or edit a rule. And like all our Functions users can easily share their Cell Validation rules with team members via One-Click Team Share.
