Calculated Columns – Providing New Ways To Visualise Your Data
AdaptableBlotter.JS now contains a great, new game-changing feature.
Calculated Columns allows users, at runtime, to create their own bespoke columns. The value of the Calculated Column is an Expression which they write themselves. Once created, the Calculated Column becomes part of their grid and can be moved, styled, included in searches and filters and is treated like any other column.
The value in the column re-calculates and updates in real time as columns referenced in the expression themselves update.
The name of the Calculated Column – and the Expression – are stored in the User’s storage just like all other items created in AdaptableBlotter.JS and the column is available when the application is next opened.
The Calculated Column Expression can include mathematical functions (a huge array of mathematical operators are available) or static values and can reference as many other columns in the grid as required.
For example a Calculated Column could show the delta between the values in 2 other columns, or display the max value of 5 different columns (suitable when multiple pricing or historical data columns are present).
The possibilities and potential use cases are truly endless and empowering: Calculated Columns allow users to visualise, analyse and structure their data in ways that no other grid makes possible.
It is truly a game-changing feature.
